Sabre is to be considered as a “national” weapon in Hungary therefore the research of local sources is relevant. Most of these sources (mainly created around the end of 19th – beginning of 20th century) are not available in English. Sharing translations and technical elements and drills, also comparative analysis with other (non-Hungarian) sources can contribute to have a more complete view of this weapon.
My research focuses mainly on Gusztáv Arlow’s book form 1902 but also other fencing manuals (Samu Chappon, Károly Leszák) are also discussed. Translation and assembling a technical repertoire which is suited for comparative analysis are among the project aims.
